This barcode scanner online reads supported retail, logistics, and 2D formats from an uploaded image or live camera. Decoding stays in your browser and the result includes the detected format name. A scan returns encoded data; it does not by itself identify a product or prove that a number is assigned.
Supported symbols and result meaning
The barcode reader online recognizes UPC-A, EAN-13, Code 128, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, and other formats exposed by the browser decoder. Scan a barcode from an image online
- Use the original PNG, JPEG, or WebP when possible.
- Make sure the file is under 10 MB.
- Crop to one intended barcode while retaining blank margins.

- Review both the detected format and decoded value.
- Copy the result into the target system or lookup tool.
- Verify important identifiers against a human-readable label or source record.

Live camera scanning
Grant camera permission, place the complete symbol in view, and wait for focus. Linear bars need to span enough pixels across their width, so rotate the package or phone when necessary. Keep the scan line perpendicular to the bars and reduce glare. For small Data Matrix marks, move closer only while the camera can still focus.
If permission is rejected or a camera is unavailable, the page keeps the upload option active and explains how to retry. No automatic navigation occurs for decoded URLs. The result is text first, with an explicit open action only for a confirmed HTTP or HTTPS address.
Diagnose common failures
Linear symbols fail when bars are blurred together, horizontally compressed, cropped at the quiet zone, or curved too sharply around a package. Thermal print gaps, ink spread, scratches, transparent film, and low contrast also matter. A phone camera is more sensitive to focus and perspective than a laser or imaging scanner designed for retail.
Two-dimensional marks can fail from tiny modules, uneven lighting, missing borders, severe damage, or a source image reduced by messaging software. Return to the original asset, increase light, straighten the view, and try a dedicated hardware reader when the label is part of an operational system.
Data safety after decoding
Treat every result as untrusted input. Do not paste it directly into a command shell, database query, privileged admin form, or payment workflow without validation. Check digit validity can detect some numeric mistakes but does not establish ownership, authenticity, or safety. For inventory, compare the scan against the expected record range and application context.
Browser-side decoding limits image disclosure, but copying a value or opening a destination creates new data flows. Review where the data will be sent and avoid exposing confidential shipping, identity, or asset information on shared devices.

Verify a scanned value
After you scan barcode input, compare it with the human-readable characters and the expected application record. For UPC-A or EAN-13, check the digit count and check digit. For Code 128, look for case differences, missing spaces, or scanner-added characters. For 2D payloads, preserve line endings and separators when copying into a diagnostic tool.
The barcode scanner online reports what ZXing decoded from the selected frame. It does not silently correct a product identifier or decide that a record is genuine. Test a label population
