Choose a format before entering data
A barcode generator cannot decide which symbol your receiving system accepts. A supermarket checkout normally expects a registered UPC-A or EAN-13 identifier. An internal warehouse may accept Code 128 because it can encode letters, digits, and punctuation. Data Matrix is often selected for a compact component mark, while PDF417 and Aztec suit specialized document or ticket workflows. Confirm the required symbology with the retailer, scanner vendor, or system owner before producing labels.
This online barcode generator supports six formats. Select one in the tool and the input validator will apply its length or character rules. A Code 128 value may contain printable ASCII. UPC-A accepts 11 digits plus a calculated check digit or a complete 12-digit value. EAN-13 uses 12 data digits plus its final check digit. The two-dimensional formats accept longer text, but capacity and physical size still affect reliable scanning.
How to create and download a barcode

- Resolve any validation message instead of adding random padding characters.
- Inspect the human-readable text where the format uses it.

The free barcode generator produces a graphic, not a database record. Saving the SVG does not tell a point-of-sale platform what product, price, or stock record belongs to the number. That association must be configured in the system that consumes the scan.
Check digits and common input errors
Retail formats use a modulo-10 check digit to detect many typing and scanning errors. If an existing 12-digit UPC or 13-digit EAN is rejected, compare the final digit with the value supplied by the identifier owner. Do not change a legitimate number merely to make an image render. Spaces, dashes, letters, and an incorrect number of digits are frequent reasons a retail code fails validation.
Code 128 is more flexible but that does not make every payload operationally useful. Leading spaces, ambiguous punctuation, inconsistent capitalization, or a value longer than the label can comfortably hold may break a workflow. Define one data convention for asset identifiers and keep it stable across the barcode creator, database, labels, and scanner software.
Print and scanning reliability
Use dark bars on a light, plain background. Preserve the blank quiet area around the symbol and do not crop it when placing the file in a label template. Linear barcodes need enough width for each bar and space; shrinking a long Code 128 value into a narrow label makes bars too fine for a printer or camera. SVG is usually preferable for commercial printing because it scales without pixelation.
Print one sample on the intended printer and material. Scan near the center, at the expected distance, under typical lighting. Then repeat after the label has been curved, laminated, or attached to the real package. Screen success does not guarantee that low-resolution thermal output or glossy packaging will work.
What this barcode maker does not provide
QRBarcode does not allocate UPC, EAN, GTIN, or GS1 Company Prefix values. If a retailer requires a globally unique product identifier, obtain it from GS1 or the responsible standards body and use this barcode maker only to render the assigned number. QRBarcode also cannot certify compliance with a trading partner's print-quality specification.
